Annual summer staple event on Martha's Vineyard taking place every third Wednesday in August, (rain date Thursday.) It's a magical night when thousands of colorful Japanese lanterns decorating charming Victorian "gingerbread cottages" (Oak Bluffs Camp Ground) light up the night. Festivities begin at the Tabernacle with Vineyard Haven Band and community sing. The first event was held in honor of the visiting governor of Massachusetts in1869. Come with friends and family, stroll through the campground, and see all the magic for yourself.
The evening starts in the Tabernacle, and seats fill well in advance. The program also includes Community Sing and music by the Vineyard Haven Band, as well as the ceremonial lighting of the first lantern.
