Annual Barn Raisers Ball / Agricultural Society 2026

  Ag Hall

Celebrate community, tradition, and a little friendly competition at the annual Barn Raisers Ball, held every year on the first Saturday in November at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury.

For more than three decades, this beloved Island gathering has brought together neighbors of all ages for an evening of music, dancing, cider, and an impressive spread of homemade desserts. The night features a BYOB dessert potluck, where guests share their favorite sweets and sample dozens of treats displayed in the front hall. Live music from local favorites Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish keeps the dance floor full as Islanders come together shoulder-to-shoulder in one of the Vineyard’s most cherished fall traditions. The celebration honors the 1994 raising of the Agricultural Hall, when a dairy barn transported from New Hampshire was rebuilt by hundreds of Islanders who volunteered their time and labor to create the community space that stands today. The original barn-raising ended with a big party, and each year the Barn Raisers Ball continues that spirit of collaboration and celebration. Earlier in the day, families can join Barn Raisers Day from 1 to 2:30 PM, where kids and adults build their own mini versions of the Agricultural Hall using cardboard, Play-Doh, Legos, and other creative materials. It’s a joyful tribute to Island history, creativity, and the enduring spirit of community.
